Is climbing stairs a dreaded task? Have you given up your morning jogs, CrossFit, or pickleball because of knee pain? Whether it’s a sharp, stabbing pain or a persistent ache, knee pain can prevent you from living your best life.
With over 30 years of experience working with athletes – from professionals to weekend warriors – I understand knee pain. Let’s uncover your root cause and get you off the sidelines.
Many patients seek me out when traditional physical therapy and/or injections have failed or plateaued. In these cases, I find even the most well-meaning clinicians have focused solely on the knee joint, ignoring surrounding structures.
Knee pain can stem from issues in the low back, hip, ankle, and foot. That’s why treatment at New Moon begins with a comprehensive evaluation. I look at the whole picture – not just your knee, but how your entire body is functioning.
For example, trigger points in the rectus femoris, a muscle that attaches from the pelvis to the knee, can develop from overuse or prolonged sitting. This pain mimics runner’s knee, tendinitis, and chondromalacia patella.
Stretching and strengthening of the knee is great, but unless the trigger points are eliminated, traditional treatment often fails or plateaus.

Trigger points in the Vastus Medialis can mimic adductor strain and medial joint/meniscal pain.
Here’s another common example of trigger points referring pain. Trigger points in the Vastus Medialis, commonly cause misdiagnosis of adductor strain or medial meniscus irritation.
Scars are one of the most overlooked generators of pain. Do you have a surgical or traumatic scar anywhere in your hip, knee, or calf muscle? Go here to see how your scar may be contributing to knee pain.
Sometimes, eliminating scar tissue is the final step towards pain-free function.

Dry needling is my specialty, and although every patient is different, physical therapy treatment sessions typically consist of expert dry needling, myofascial work, IASTM/Graston, and stability training.
Treatments are tailored to your injury. If you are a tennis player, we’re preparing your knee for the demands of tennis. Mountain bikers will have a different plan.
Due to the effectiveness of expert dry needling in eliminating knee pain, patients typically only need to attend New Moon Physiotherapy once per week.
Call New Moon Physiotherapy at 443-653-2904 to schedule an appointment or to learn more about expert dry needling and individualized physical therapy for knee pain in Baltimore. For a quicker response, please fill out an online contact form. I can’t wait to meet you!
