Musician injuries

The International Journal of Occupational Safety and Ergonomics recently released a study that discussed the lifetime prevalence of injuries in musicians ranged from 46 to 90%. Other published calculations report that over the course of their careers, as many as 76% of orchestra musicians have suffered, or will suffer, some debilitating condition which will affect their ability to perform on their instruments. Instrumental musicians are at high risk for repetitive use injuries, and these injuries are compounded if the musician is also a computer user.

Stemming from a musical family and background, I understand the strain put on musician’s bodies. I have helped symphony musicians, harpists, piano players, rock band guitarists, and marching band and drum line members return to playing the instruments they love.
